Greenland. Blue ice, white dogs and grey melancholy
First impressions: on what planet did we land?
Inland ice
The first and only sunny day during the two weeks of August
Expanding my collection of safari encounters..
In Sisimiut
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Little sledge dog, one of the cutest animal species ever
Sniffin
Local kids..
..aka the dogs’ best friends
Najanguaq studies medicine in Denmark and comes to Greenland every summer to take visitors around as a guide. It is her last year at the uni in Aarhus, afterwards she wants to work in a local hospital and make the world a bit of a better place
They say don’t come near the sledge dogs and never try to touch them, they are wild animals and can be dangerous
That’s right, especially this one was dangerously cute
By far not as photogenic as..
..here
A protestant church along the way up north
One of the very many..
Let us all get on a small boat and turn into icebergs ourselves, yay!
Three graceful whales, perfectly synchronized.. worth having frozen my ass off
Alright! Thank you, beautiful ladies and gents!
Icebergs with a cup of tea
Almost like the Navy Seals: on a rubber zodiac boat in the arctic waters
Water melting through
Zodiac time
Here we go
Not possible to go through the tunnel though..
That’s like art or something
Hey, girls!
Kids these days..
Still life of Uummannaq
Santa lives here during the summer. Went in to say hi but he must’ve been just out for a walk..
Hello, little buddy
Shall we go for a swim? It’s 600 km north of the polar circle, the water is freezing cold but otherwise it will be totally awesome.. – No way! Never ever in my entire life. Or.. hm.. maybe?
On the way back from Santa’s summer house
Always with grace
Pilutannguaq, who was on holidays in Qeqertarsuaq, and otherwise lives and works in Ilulissat
Rainbow houses sabotaging the ubiquitous grayscale
Going shopping to a local market. Which one do I take for dinner tonight..
Home for the two weeks: a windowless cabin on the second deck the size of a shoebox. Did I mention there were no windows? Claustrophobes’ dream come true
But the view from the upper deck was alright
Making sure we won’t encounter an iceberg like this other famous ship, damn what was it called.. nevermind
Summer time
Listening to the sounds of silence
Let’s see what’s on program for this fine summer day, which also happens to be my birthday.. 4 degrees, rain and wind? Ah, that sounds.. awesome?
Better hurry up before the sun goes down
A morning cup of tea with an iceberg drifting by the back yard
A cemetery in the Walley of wind (which is a rather appropriate name). Takuss :)
Many thanks to Stephan for some of the pictures.
